Visual Magnetics will at launch their Workspace Collection, a full line of writable wallcoverings integrating the brand’s signature magnetic materials with multi-layer dry erase capabilities. The collection was conceived after spending the past few years outfitting some of NYC’s most innovative new office dwellings, observing how creators work and collaborate. Aimed at enhancing productivity, a series of writable background and layer options bring together classic forms in ideation – such as grids, graphs and arrows.
While Visual Magnetics lays the foundation by offering a range of suggested color palettes, the option to mix any of the patterns and colors allows freedom for those who want to achieve their own look. More

A Q&A with MAD Curator Ron Labaco: Studio Job MAD HOUSE and the Evolution of Dutch Design

Studio Job MAD HOUSE, the Museum of Art and Design’s latest exhibit, presents the creative vision of design collaborators Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel, who founded the Belgium-based atelier Studio Job in 1998. The immersive design experience pulls inspiration from both collaborators’ Belgian and Dutch origins and represents a unique spin on the intersection of design and cultural identity.
MAD and The Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York, which helped support the MAD exhibit, are vital partners for WantedDesign. The Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York as part of the Dutch Culture USA program is supporting the launch at WantedDesign Manhattan of “Ventura New York. The Dutch Project”, curated by Ventura Projects. The exhibit will present what Dutch design looks like in 2016 and how the nation’s culture has shaped its creative legacy.

Designing and making in North America

WantedDesign is counting down to this year’s show in Brooklyn and Manhattan this May, and the team has been busy working with partners to scout some of the best design across North America today as part of our desire to highlight original design and innovative craftsmanship. Designers are going back to the basics and reviving old traditions from their regions in striking new ways. Young furniture and denim makers in Western North Carolina are a perfect example, bringing back the region’s Craft Revival heritage with a modern twist: Made in WNC, An exhibit not to be missed at WantedDesign Brooklyn. At WantedDesign Manhattan, we partner with WorkOf, a one stop online retail destination for the best in American contemporary design, to invite visitors to discover original furniture in a designed environment. Our visitors will enjoy the WantedDesign experience as soon as they arrive in our Welcoming area designed by Brooklyn based firm UHURU Design.

American Design Honors recipient revealed

WantedDesign announces Steven Haulenbeek as the 2016 recipient of the American Design Honors Program

Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat, co-founders of WantedDesign are very proud to announce Steven Haulenbeek as the 2016 award winner of their program American Design Honors, presented with Bernhardt Design. The Chicago-based designer has an interdisciplinary studio concentrating in furniture, lighting, and objects for the home. He is known for an innovative ice casting technique that utilizes hand carved ice molds to create unique objects in Cast Bronze. 

Launched in 2015 at WantedDesign, American Design Honors recognizes talented young American designers who demonstrate outstanding creative and entrepreneurial skills, who already have a solid body of work, an original design language and are pioneering a new design business model. As an ambassador of American design, this initiative will support and give International exposure to the honoree.. These young professionals have also demonstrated an ability to create innovative processes and products. American Design Honors has been established as a platform for the recipient to develop their practice.
Through this program, Bernhardt Design and WantedDesign aim to promote American Design internationally and support the designers who are on the verge of getting to the next step in their professional path.

Steven Haulenbeek has been selected by WantedDesign co-founders Claire Pijoulat and Odile Hainaut, and Jerry Helling, President of Bernhardt Design. As part of the American Design Honors program, Haulenbeek has been invited to create an installation at the entrance of WantedDesign at the Terminal Stores building to showcase his work. MoreMore…
