Design Schools Workshop 2019

Open Form for Well-Being

Led by the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts faculty members Tomek Rygalik and Jerzy Porebski
Presented with Core77

Every May, WantedDesign presents a unique program, bringing a group of students from international design schools together to participate in the Design Schools Workshop. Conceived as a collaborative activity rather than a competition, teams are composed of students from different schools and backgrounds. The program is an important part of WantedDesign, and has been very successful in promoting the schools, fostering the creation of an international network of young designers, as well as in initiating partnerships between schools and manufacturers.

The proposed 2019 theme will explore the Open Form theory of Polish architect, theorist and educator Oskar Hansen. It will bring together 45 students from  10 international design schools.

The Workshop space will be set up again at Industry City during WantedDesign Brooklyn, allowing the students to work in a creative environment and to collaborate with some of the professional makers and design studios based at Industry City.

The final public presentation with the Jury will take place at WantedDesign Manhattan, on Tuesday, May 21. Jury committee includes Todd Bracher, founder Todd Bracher studio, Allan Chochinov, Chair, SVA|NYC MFA Products of Design & Core77 co founder, Jean-Jacques L’Hénaff, Vice President Design, Lixil Water Technology Americas, Ece Calguner Erzan, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP associate director
