Mush-Lume project
What if instead of making products out of petroleum-based plastics and non-renewable materials, we used natural, sustainable materials?  So instead of our goods ending up in landfills, they could biodegrade in our backyards!  Meet Mush-Lume. A lamp GROWN from mushrooms!  Mush-Lume’s lamp shade is grown, not manufactured, using an innovative mushroom technology. We’re working with Ecovative Design and their patented growing process to create an ORGANIC, SUSTAINABLE and BIODEGRADABLE lamp shade.  The process uses agricultural byproducts, like seed husks and corn stalks, and combines them with mushroom mycelium.  The mycelium then binds with these components and grows for several days.  When the growth process is complete, the material is heated and dried, ending the growth cycle.  At the end of it’s life, the mushroom material can be broken into smaller pieces, then added to your backyard compost and will fully biodegrade!
