Feltum & Gala Fernández

For the first time, Feltum, the Mexico-based design office specialized in wool felt, and Gala Fernández, founder of PioPio Design Labs, will combine forces for WantedDesign 2015. Feltum is known for producing a range of high-end felt rugs with complex geometries. The deeply inspired Gala Fernández will produce a complimentary line of vases and containers made of wool felt and stone as a tribute to the German artist and photographer, Karl Blossfeldt.

Feltum was founded by Marie Jose (Pepa) Mendoza and michael Fischer. Pepa worked at Zaha Hadid Architects while Michael dedicated himself to sensitively refurbishing early modernist buildings before launching their firm together. Both are convinced that a lot of work is left to be done in the ascent of wool felt as an architectural material. Their studio is based in Mexico City.

Gala Fernández is the founder of PioPio Design Labs and a partner in Abierto de Diseño Mexicano, the definitive design week in the largest city on the American continent. Gala has cooperated with a large number of designers such as Jaime Hayón, Oscar Mariné and El Último Grito. Parallel to WantedDesign she will show her work at Chamber NYC.
