Shintaro Akatsu School of Design

The Shintaro Akatsu School of Design at University of Bridgeport offers professional career education in the design fields leading to professional degrees, and life long careers in design. Coupled with University academic courses, SASD curricula works to expand students’ abilities to recognize, understand, and solve design problems using design thinking, and culturally and environmentally appropriate methodologies. SASD is committed to advancing the use of best-practices design in all areas of the human and natural environment.

SASD furniture design classes allow students and opportunity to do specialized design work in the furniture field. Classes explore materials, colors, textures, forms, human factors, and manufacturing techniques enabling students to create uniquely aesthetic and functional solutions to furniture design problems. Students start with research, free hand and orthographic drawings, a variety of three-dimensional models, CAD drawings, and conclude with a final prototype or a finished piece of furniture.
