Danish Institute for Study Abroad

Furniture Design in Scandinavia – Enjoy an experience of a lifetime making your own piece of furniture in the capital of Scandinavian furniture design, Copenhagen. Established in 1959, DIS – Danish Institute for Study Abroad is a non-profit institution offering semester and summer programs taught in English in Copenhagen. Furniture Design in Scandinavia is a 7 week, 9 credit session in the Architecture & Design Program, where students get trained in the full design process of a piece of furniture. Starting with the conceptual development and production of working drawings, the session ends with the building of a full-scale prototype as well as the exhibition of the work in Copenhagen. The teaching is a combination of one-on-one tutoring and discussions in studio and in the workshops. A lecture course on furniture and design in Scandinavian, guest lectures by professional furniture and cabinetmakers, as well as a weeklong study tour to Sweden and Finland, all form part of this once in a lifetime experience. Watch students telling their experience about DIS
