Oliver Haslegrave represents as well this important movement of the Designer/Maker/Entrepreneur, a phenomenon specific to North America. He has a unique background, he started as an interior designer, a story teller first. His ability to develop narratives through spaces and objects was really appealing to WantedDesign team and Bernhardt Design. As American Design Honors program recipient, Haslegrave will showcase his latest pieces from his “Homework” collection in an original installation at WantedDesign Manhattan.
After receiving a degree in Film Studies and working in publishing, Oliver Haslegrave founded Home Studios in Brooklyn in 2009 as a creative studio for interiors and buildings. Home Studios practice creates a visual story through an emotional conversation that combines deep research, diversity of art forms, unexpected proportions and material, and devotion to detail. The result is an expression for individuals who resist category to pursue new ideas, new beauty and new meaning.
Home Studios currently undertakes hotel, hospitality, residential and retail projects around the world, widely respected for their continual commitment to innovation. In 2017, Haslegrave founded Homework as an experiment in furniture and lighting design. Born out of research and custom design for their interiors, Homework is an ongoing collection of ever-changing alchemy and ideas, combined with the diversity and interaction of the writing, music and art that continually inform Haslegrave’s distinct, conceptual approach to design. This collection’s assembly explores the interaction of the varied materials marble, stainless and silver plated steel, hand blown glass, resin and leather, some of which Haslegrave is using for the first time. ‘
That’s the vision of Homework – always learning. Creating a new moment so that it can last. See new pieces in the collection at WantedDesign Manhattan, May 19-22 during NYCxDESIGN.
