Launch Pad Application Form 2018
The Launch Pad at WantedDesign Manhattan is a curated exhibition of work by up-and-coming furniture and lighting designers. Approximately 30 designers will be selected based on their presentation of one or two projects in a single category (either furniture or lighting). Selection criteria: studio’s approach, ability to communicate their point of view. The design must be original and respond to a US market need.
Application presentations may include images of existing prototypes or renderings and project descriptions. Once selected, each designer will receive a 25 square foot space within the Launch Pad exhibition to present prototypes of their designs. The Launch Pad is an excellent platform for designers who are seeking exposure during NYCxDESIGN within a space that allows them to interact with press, manufacturers, retailers and more.
Applications are due January 31, 2018 and selected designers will be notified by February 15, 2018. It is free to apply and there is an $1,100 participation fee for selected designers. This cost includes basic lighting, power, cleaning, security and a PR and communications package across WantedDesign, Design Milk and Design Within Reach platforms.
During WantedDesign Manhattan (May 19-22, 2018), a jury of industry professionals, led by Jaime Derringer of Design Milk and including representatives from Design Within Reach, will meet with each designer in order to review their work. The jury will select a Best of Launch Pad in both the furniture and lighting categories. Each winner will receive a Q&A blog post on WantedDesign and Design Milk blogs along with a meeting with members of the DWR merchandising team in the appropriate categories, as well as a free exhibition space at WantedDesign Manhattan the following year (value: $4,000).
