The Best of Launch Pad 2018 are…
This year, our jury of design professionals named one lighting and one furniture/objects designer a Best of Launch Pad 2018.
The winner of the Furniture/Objects category is Studio Maryam Turkey. Her piece, Mazamla, is a contemporary water cooler inspired by traditional Middle Eastern water coolers that were made of Terracotta. Fired clay allows air to pass through and once it hits the water it lowers its temperature. No electricity is needed to use this multi functional water cooler that serves as a shelving unit and a planter on top of serving an ideal temperature of water. And the winner in the Lighting Category is…
The winner of the Lighting category is Lalaya Design from Toronto. Their pieces are constructed from concrete and steel. These materials appear both lighter and heavier than they initially appear. The seemingly pedestrian materials transform from dull to unique and beautiful. Read more about Lalaya Design and its founder Hanae Baruchel on Design Milk.
