The American Design Honors is presented to Egg Collective

WantedDesign is proud to announce the recipient of its first American Design Honors program—the Brooklyn-based company, Egg Collective. Established in 2012 by three female designers: Stephanie Beamer, Crystal Ellis, and Hillary Petrie, Egg Collective is a New York-based design company committed to building American-made furniture. Through their backgrounds in architecture, art, and woodworking, they have developed a unique style and a strong design language.
Celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, WantedDesign is proud to partner with long time supporter of American design, Bernhardt Design, on this new initiative which aims to recognize talented young American designers that demonstrate outstanding creative and entrepreneurial skills, who already have a solid body of work, an original design language, and are pioneering a new design business model. As an ambassador of American design, this initiative will support and give International exposure to the honoree.
Selected by a committee of design professionals including Jerry Helling, President of Bernhardt Design, and WantedDesign Co-Founders, Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat, the honoree designers of 2015, Egg Collective, will have a dedicated space at the entrance of WantedDesign at the Terminal Stores building to present selected pieces of their collection. “Since the beginning of WantedDesign, our vision has always been to support and raise awareness of established and promising new designers and manufacturers,” said Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat. “Our goal continues to revolve around creating a platform that promotes and highlights American design while elevating awareness among the international community. Now in its fifth year, we’re proud to introduce this new American Design Honors program which recognizes pioneering designers, at a young stage of their careers, whose creativity, passion, and unique design language is paving the way for future designers. It’s an exciting moment in the design industry here in the U.S. and we’re excited to be a part of this movement and look forward to supporting it in the coming years.”

This honor comes at a very special moment as Egg Collective, just this Spring, opened their first New York City showroom and is preparing to move their wood shop into Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. They also just released a line of case goods with DWR.

“We are incredibly grateful to be the recipient of the inaugural WantedDesign/Bernhardt Design American Design Honors. Helping to bring furniture design and manufacturing back to America has been one of our key goals since forming Egg Collective in 2012,” explains Stephanie Beamer, Crystal Ellis, and Hillary Petrie from Egg Collective. “Now, almost three years later, this award comes both as an unexpected surprise, and a great encouragement.  We are currently at a crucial point in our career as we just opened our first New York showroom, and believe this recognition will continue to solidify us as part of the dynamic and growing American design scene.”

“There are so many outstanding young designers working in America today and it is important they receive recognition and support. This program allows us the opportunity to honor one of them each year and focus on their achievements in a very meaningful way. We hope to encourage the next generation of American designers with this award,” said Jerry Helling, President and Creative Director of Bernhardt Design.
